Famous for its tours ofJapan and Taiwan, Show Bouillant returns with its two favorite presenters to discover Germany and the Netherlands.Very exotic for them! What sexual habits will they discover?
“Show Bouillant” is a bold and revealing series produced by Netflix, delving into the diverse cultures and industries of sex around the world. Each season, with episodes varying in length around 30 minutes, takes viewers on a unique journey to discover sexual practices, pleasure industries, and cultural attitudes towards sexuality in different countries. And in this third season, we meet up with my two favorites Shin Dong-youp and Sung Si-kyung, the two Korean hosts who are as naughty as they are nice.
Since its first seasons, “Show Bouillant” has explored regions such as Taiwan, Japan, the Netherlands and Germany, highlighting not only the specificities of the sex industry in each context, but also the perceptions and taboos that surround it. By visiting iconic locations and engaging in open conversations with industry players, activists, and ordinary citizens, the series succeeded in breaking down certain stereotypes and showing the complexity of human sexual and relational experiences.
Each episode, while rooted in specific experiences, aims to open up a dialogue around sexuality, intimacy and relationships, with an open, non-judgmental approach
A positive view of sex
Indeed, the series doesn’t simply present sexuality as a subject of curiosity or entertainment; it strives to contextualize each aspect within the broader framework of sexual rights, health and well-being. For example, in exploring Amsterdam’s red light district, the series highlights the regulation and safety that surround legal prostitution, offering a contrast to the more restrictive or taboo approaches in other areas. Similarly, when the show delved into Japan’s love hotel culture in the first season, “Show Bouillant” reveals how these spaces meet social and intimate needs in a context of high urban density and social pressure.
Throughout its seasons, “Show Bouillant” does a remarkable job of highlighting how legislation, sex education and cultural openness can influence the way sexuality is experienced and perceived. The program shows that, despite cultural differences, fundamental needs and desires remain universal, while emphasizing the importance of consent, communication and respect in any approach to sexuality.
By comparing the contexts surrounding sexuality in these various countries, the program invites reflection on the universality of desire and the many ways of expressing it, while respecting local norms and values. It’s a tribute to the diversity of human sexual expression, and a call for greater openness and mutual understanding in the way we approach the subject of sexuality on a global scale.
And since I’m being nice, I’m giving you my usual summary of the episodes, which I devoured in one bite.
Episode 1: carte blanche in Amsterdam’s red light district
Our two friendly hosts arrive in Amsterdam and head for the red light district, a place symbolic of the liberalization of sex. They strike up conversations with sex workers, discovering their personal stories, their motivations, and how they perceive their profession in a legalized setting. This first contact seeks to deconstruct prejudices and show a human and respectful perspective. And I love to see them amazed by everything we teach them, torn between curiosity, excitement and embarrassment. It’s lovely.
Episode 2: A mixed spa adventure
In Germany, the “Show Bouillant” team visits a mixed spa, a first experience for some members. They immerse themselves in the local naturist culture, sharing their personal thoughts on nudity and bodily freedom. Interviews with naturists provide an insight into the philosophy behind the practice and how it promotes acceptance of self and others. When you’re familiar with Korean culture and its relationship to nudity, it’s a lot of fun to watch.
Episode 3: the world of SM : hit or behit !
I don’t need to introduce you to S&M anymore, nor its branches such as BDSM or other hard-sex deviances. If not, go and read my articles. This episode explores the complex dynamics of sadomasochism. The hosts take part in initiation sessions, learn about the roles of dominant and submissive, and discuss the importance of consent and communication. They meet practitioners who explain how SM enriches their sex lives and strengthens their relationships.
Episode 4: A wild night with a Berlin club queen
In Berlin, known for its vibrant club scene, the hosts immerse themselves in nightlife. They follow a “queen of the night” through the most iconic clubs, exploring the links between dance, sexuality and self-expression. Post-party discussions capture the diverse ways in which sex and night intersect in a space of freedom and exploration.
Episode 5: the electric husband with the powerful waves
In this episode, the hosts attend an event organized by a sex toy company, where they see demonstrations of new products and discuss trends in female pleasure. This experience helps them understand how technology is transforming intimacy and pleasure, and they gather testimonials on the impact of these innovations.
Episode 6: one bed, three partners !
The final episode tackles the concept of polyamory and open relationships. We discover a unique marital dynamic: a woman with two husbands. Our friends talk to them and try to understand their situation and, above all, share it with the world. Through interviews and discussions with people living in non-traditional relationship configurations, the hosts explore the challenges, joys, and unique dynamics of these arrangements. The aim is to show the diversity of forms of love and desire, beyond monogamy.
I can’t wait for the next season, can you?
