Mia Khalifa made a name for herself after a dazzling career in porn. She was the first typical Arab woman to shoot with a religious veil overherhead. Success was instantaneous. A choice she has accepted, despite certain drawbacks.
This young Lebanese born in 1993 migrated to the United States in 2001 to live her American dream. It was along the way, in 2014, that she launched her career in porn. After a short career lasting just three months, she became known all over the world. A few years later, she denounces the highly manipulative and exploitative side of this industry. And yet, after throwing stones, here she is again, on camming sites charging $10 a minute.
Finally, after spitting in the soup, she drinks it all the way down. Like a beautiful deep throat. Yes, I know you’re visualizing and it makes me smile.
Who is Mia Khalifa?
For the few of you who don’t know her (don’t play innocent), Mia Khalifa was a comet in the world of pornography. Launching herself in 2014, her fame exploded in less than 2 months and she became the most watched person on Pornhub. What made her famous? It’s not because she gave the world’s best blowjobs or did spectacular acrobatics, no. It’s because she got laid wearing a hijab, the veil that hides the hair of Muslims. In other words, she broke a taboo.
Especially since Mia Khalifa comes from a very conservative family. After attending a French-speaking school in Beirut (Lebanon), where she also learned English, she moved with her family when war broke out in the south. A classic teenager, she was a lacrosse player in high school. She was harassed a little because of the color of her skin, especially after September 11. She attended Massanutten Military Academy in Woodstock, Virginia , and then graduated from the University of Texas at El Paso with a Bachelor of Arts in History. She supported herself during her stay by working as a bartender, model and “briefcase girl” in a Spanish Deal or No Deal -esque game show.
In short, a “normal” young girl’s life until then.
The moment she embraces porn
But how does such an “ordinary” young girl one day fall into a world so different from what she’s always known? I’d say there’s probably a link between the two, some kind of rebellion, but I’m not so sure. You’d have to ask her.
So it was in 2014 that the beautiful brunette took the big step. She began by choosing a pseudonym, which she took from the name of her dog, Mia, and the American rapper Wiz Khalifa. The day the film in which she wears a hijab during a threesome with actors Sean Lawless and Julianna Vega was released, it was explosive. It was an instant hit, so much so that even people who’d never seen it knew who she was.
But with success comes criticism. The scene brought Khalifa instant popularity, as well as criticism from writers and religious figures, and led her parents to publicly disown her. Alex Hawkins, VP of marketing for xHamster, said, “The outrage he caused in the Arab world ended up being a bit of a ‘Streisand effect’. Suddenly, everyone was looking for her. The effort to censor it only made it more ubiquitous.” With over 1.5 million views, Khalifa, 22, became the most searched performer on adult video-sharing site Pornhub. On December 28 of that year, Pornhub revealed that she was the #1 ranked performer on their website.
Threatened with death by ISIS
With the fame that made her world-famous, she received death threats. But she didn’t care. Nor did she care about any criticism. “I was banned from a handful of countries… Egypt… Afghanistan… Very Muslim countries were deeply offended by it – and I’m Catholic. So for me, it wasn’t, ‘Oh yeah, that’s bad.’ In fact, what I said when they offered me the scene, and this is verbatim, was, ‘You bastards, you’re going to get me killed,'” she added.
Her growing success led her to sign a contract with Bang Bros’ parent company (WGCZ holding, also owner of XVidéos), but she backed out two weeks later and slammed the door on the business. It was a milieu she felt was ultimately unhealthy and harmful to those close to her. And yet, years later, she is still one of the most sought-after X-rated personalities.
Life after porn
Despite all this, Mia Khalifa claims to have earned just $12,000 from her work in the porn industry. On Twitter, she posted alongside the clip of her interview with Megan Abott, “People think I make millions from porn. Completely untrue. I made a TOTAL of about $12,000 in the industry and never saw a dime after that. The difficulty of finding a normal job after leaving porn was… scary”.
Mia Khalifa wanted to return to a normal life. So she embarked on a career as a lawyer and parachutist. The problem was, she wasn’t being hired for the right reasons, and it quickly became embarrassing. So she turned to the Internet and social media, but also as a webcam model and sports commentator. She runs a YouTube channel; has her live stream on Twitch and performs as a webcam model; sells photo shoots, merchandise and access to exclusive content on membership website Patreon; and sells explicit photo shoots and videos on social media website Findrow.
So she stays in the erotic and pornographic world. You can find her on Onlyfans for $12 a minute. But don’t expect any incredible feats. While her review of the platform is mixed, with nearly 350,000 likes on her content, OnlyFans is where Mia still earns considerable revenue alongside brand mentions and ventures into fashion. Current discounts on Mia’s subscription packages include subscription to a year’s worth of content for £93.
And what aboutyourprivate life?
Here too, her life has been a little eventful. After marrying her high-school boyfriend in 2011, they separated in 2014 and divorced in 2014. She then met chef Robert Sandberg, who initially didn’t care about her past. But it eventually caught up with him, and he threw in the towel in 2020, fed up with Mia Khalifa’s reputation.
After so many disappointments, she married Puerto Rican singer and rapper Jay Cortez in 2022.
