Literally all over. It docks in Manitowoc WI and depending on weekend you can see pulls 3 days in a row. A lot more tractors than semis but they're out there.
I think it starts at 30k pounds or so, but at the end of the track, effectively over 60k being dragged on the sled pan, which also has drag bars under it. Pretty tough haul.
I live about 30 miles from the first semi driven by W.T. Miller. Personal family friend my uncle pulled his semi at the idaville tractor pull and beat the owners distance by 13 feet.

Do these guys utilize a hydrostatic transmission to smoothly apply power when the boost is maxed out at the start like that?
Mostly they use a slipper clutch. As the rpm increases the clutch starts to enguage.
